CRANDALL, Texas — The Crandall Independent School District (ISD) welcomed more than 70 new employees as they prepare to break ground on a new elementary campus later this week.

The district welcomed more than 70 new teachers, counselors, teaching assistants, and support staff on Tuesday morning as the district began its first day of new teacher training for the 2016-17 school year at Crandall ISD’s Raynes Education Center.

“Congratulations on choosing the greatest profession in the world, becoming a public education teacher,” Superintendent Dr. Robert Jolly told the crowd.

Over the last four to five years, Crandall ISD has seen a four-to-five percent student population increase, according to a district demographer. For the 2016-17 school year, Crandall ISD’s student population increased seven percent.

The growth is expected to continue at an unprecedented rate, according to the demographer with rates of six to seven percent over the next decade.

Crandall ISD will break ground on its newest elementary campus in Heartland later this week which is expected to be open for the 2017-18 school year.

“We are excited about the growth of our district and would like to thank the Board of Trustees for their support in adding 45 additional positions over the last two years,” stated Jolly. “These positions will be instrumental in serving all children with all needs.”

With the addition of the new elementary campus in the 2017-18 school year, Crandall ISD plans to move 6th grade students back to elementary campuses to increase capacity at Crandall Middle School.

“As the district continues to grow, changes to the schools themselves are necessary to accommodate the additional students,” stated the district in a release.

By 2025-26, Crandall ISD is projected to have more than 6,700 students.

“[We] look forward to the exciting changes this will bring to the district,” stated the district.
