FORNEY, Texas — An 18-wheeler accident forced the closure of eastbound U.S. Highway 80 early Monday morning after it struck a bridge guardrail — sending debris and diesel fuel all over the highway.
The 18-wheeler struck the bridge guardrail on eastbound U.S. Highway 80 just east of Farm-to-Market (FM) 460 and then veered off the highway into an embankment on the south side of the highway just before 1:30 a.m.
The accident forced the closure of eastbound U.S. Highway 80 at the FM 460 exit due to debris from the guardrail in the road as well as diesel fuel which spilled from a ruptured saddle tank on the 18-wheeler. The section of guardrail impacted was recently repaired by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) because of several past accidents involving the guardrail and 18-wheelers.
The Forney Police Department and Forney Fire Department responded to the accident. A heavy-duty wrecker and a TxDOT representative were en route as of 1:53 a.m.
