FORNEY, Texas — A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized after a near drowning Saturday afternoon at a Forney-area community swimming pool.

At approximately 3 p.m., the Forney Fire Department, Forney Police Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and a CareFlite ambulance responded to the Windmill Farms community pool on Buckingham Drive for a reported near drowning.

A 3-year-old girl had been reported under the water for an undetermined amount of time, according to Forney Fire Department Chief Rick Townsend.

Bystanders removed the girl from the pool and began administering CPR prior to EMS arrival, said Townsend. When EMS arrived, the girl was awake and alert.

The girl was taken by CareFlite ambulance to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Townsend says its standard procedure in a near drowning because most issues arise later due to the possibility water entered the lungs which could develop late-delayed pneumonia.

Depending on the severity, the girl will likely be kept and observed for up to a couple of days, he said.
