Just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015, several Kaufman County fire departments were dispatched to the fire on County Road 308 — east of Terrell, Texas, in between U.S. Highway 80 and Interstate 20.
The mobile home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Nearby trees, brush and trash piles also caught on fire.
The home had been abandoned for nearly two years, according to a neighbor.
Firefighters continued to battle hot spots several hours after their arrival. One firefighter was transported to Presbyterian Hospital by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance with difficulty breathing.
The Elmo Volunteer Fire Department received assistance from the College Mound Volunteer Fire Department, Able Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and Terrell Volunteer Fire Department. The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
