KAUFMAN, Texas — The Kaufman Independent School District will host several area law enforcement agencies in conducting an active shooter drill on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Kaufman High School.
The drill will be held from 8 a.m. until noon and police say the general public should not be alarmed by law enforcement presence at the campus.
“As with all of our drills, we try to be as realistic as possible and will use props to simulate the sounds of gunfire, etc,” Kaufman ISD Chief of Police Debi Nixon said. “The Kaufman High School will be closed to non-participants during that time.”
The drill will include a mobile incident command post in the nearby First Assembly of God Church parking lot and will include personnel from the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT team, Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, Kaufman Police Department, Kaufman Fire Department, CareFlite, Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management.
The drill will begin as an active shooter situation which will turn into a barricaded person and hostage situation drill.
Approximately 100 students and teachers will take part in the drill as suspects, intruders, victims, injured individuals, and hostages, according to Nixon.
