KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Troopers suspect alcohol was a factor in a head-on collision on State Highway (SH) 34 Saturday, November 15, 2014, which resulted in the road being closed for several hours and one patient being taken to an area hospital.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Troopers suspect alcohol was a factor in a head-on collision on State Highway (SH) 34 Saturday, November 15, 2014, which resulted in the road being closed for several hours and one patient being taken to an area hospital.
At approximately 7:40 p.m., SH 34 was closed just south of Zagota Crossing Road, near Abner Road, in between Terrell, Texas, and Kaufman, Texas, after police say a man traveling southbound on SH 34 struck a northbound SUV, driven by a woman, head-on.
Terrell Volunteer Fire Department firefighters extricated the woman from the vehicle and she was later transported to an area hospital by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance in an unknown condition.
The man crawled out of his vehicle, according to witnesses, and was arrested for “alcohol related” reasons at the scene by the Texas Department of Public Safety. His name was not yet released pending booking into the Kaufman County Jail.
The impact of the two vehicles forced the man’s truck off the road into a treed creek area before the “midway bridge.” His truck overturned in the ditch. The woman's SUV remained on the road.
Approximately 100 yards of debris was strewn across the road including at least one tire from both vehicles.
The highway was reopened at approximately 11 p.m.
