FORNEY, Texas — In 2014, the Forney Police Department, Forney Fire Department, Forney Animal Control, and East Texas Medical Center EMS received more than 20,000 calls through the Forney Police Department dispatch center — a slight increase over 2013.
In total, 20,182 calls were made to the police department — up from 19,237 reported in 2013. The calls represent any and all calls routed through the department’s dispatch center which receive a service number and include all police, fire, EMS, and animal control calls. Dispatch received an average of 55 calls per day.
Overall, arrests and citations were up from 2013, in large part because the department was down four officers a majority of the year, according to Forney Police Department Chief Rick Barnes. “In 2014, we were fully staffed for the most part and with a full staff the numbers will go up.”
The population of Forney is also estimated to have increased by 770 from 16,030 in 2013 to 16,800 in 2014, according to population estimates provided by the North Central Texas Council of Governments in an April 2014 report. The estimates were based on housing inventories.
781 total adult arrests were reported, up from 733 in 2013, with 204 felony charges and 1,691 misdemeanor charges. 202 of those were drug related charges, 44 were driving while intoxicated, and 57 for public intoxication. 11 juvenile arrests were reported with one stemming from drug charges.
728 accidents, 367 major and 361 minor, were reported for the year with no fatalities within the city limits. 2013 saw 693 total accidents and also no fatalities within the city limits.
In 2014, 2,351 citations were issued and, of those, 2,164 were traffic violations. Those numbers are up from 2013 when 1,792 citations were issued — 1,592 were traffic violations.
