FORNEY, Texas — Area fire departments received grants from Atmos Energy last week to fund the purchase of multi-gas detectors.
The gas detectors are capable of sniffing out gases such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide as well as giving Lower Explosive Limits to alert firefighters of potentially hazardous explosive situations.
“This is a much-needed tool we hope we never have to use,” College Mound Volunteer Fire Department Chief Josh Phillips told inForney.com “If we ever do, it will be a tool that will save countless lives.”
The Forney Fire Department received a $1,400 grant from Atmos Energy on Tuesday night, October 6, 2015, during the Forney City Council meeting and the College Mound Volunteer Fire Department received a $2,000 grant on October 8, 2015.
