KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Authorities from several agencies recovered a body from the Trinity River Tuesday afternoon, according to Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Captain Fred Klingelberger.
At approximately 1 p.m., the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and the Rosser Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the State Highway (SH) 34 bridge over the Trinity River near the Kaufman-Ellis County line for an apparent body floating in the river which was called in by workers collecting water samples from the river.
Due to recent rains and high, fast-moving water, the search efforts have been difficult.
A Texas Parks and Wildlife Department watercraft as well as a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter were called in to assist with the search which was focused on portions of the Trinity River south of SH 34 in Kaufman, Eliis, and Henderson County.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., DPS helicopter 101 located and directed ground recovery teams and the Texas Parks and Wildlife watercraft toward the body which was recovered at approximately 4:10 p.m.
The body will likely be sent for dental records to determine the persons identity, according to Klingelberger, which could take several days.
