KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal head-on collision which occurred Sunday night.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal head-on collision which occurred Sunday night.
At approximately 8 p.m., the Kaufman Fire Department was dispatched to the accident on Farm-to-Market (FM) 2727 near County Road (CR) 143. FM 2727 was closed while two helicopters landed on the roadway to transport patients and for a DPS investigation.
The accident, approximately two mile northeast of Kaufman, Texas, involved a black pickup truck occupied three times and a white Crown Victoria occupied by 24-year-old Ramon Ramirez of Kaufman, Texas. The driver of the truck, 63-year-old Randy Ray Edwards of Balch Springs, Texas, was entrapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mary Bardin.
According to DPS Trooper Kyle Bradford, the truck was traveling northbound on FM 2727 when the car, traveling southbound, crossed into the northbound lane and struck the truck head on. DPS is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident including a blood draw taken from Ramirez.
36-year-old Crystal Anne Moon of Mesquite, Texas, a passenger in the truck, was flown to a Tyler, Texas, hospital and 19-year-old Cory Watts of Austin, Texas, also an occupant of the truck, was transported by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Texas. Ramirez was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
