FORNEY, Texas — The renovation of Bell Park in downtown Forney is underway as heavy equipment began clearing ground at the park earlier this week.
“Bell Park has marked the southern entry of downtown Forney since the 1980’s,” stated a City of Forney April agenda item. “The park was originally built with funds secured by the Forney Beautification Committee led by Mrs. Doris Hamblin.”
“The committee's work earned the "Governor's Community Achievement Award" in 1985 and again in 1986,” the item stated.
The renovation will honor the concept of the original park while addressing new functionality for today’s use, the Forney Parks Board recommended.
The project will be funded in part by the City of Forney which budgeted $77,000 in this year’s CIP budget and the Spellman Trust which contributed $67,000. $7,626.29 was spent on the park’s renovated design.
Bell Park is a favorite site for local high school students to take prom pictures and the City of Forney is assuring the project will be complete by spring prom.
