KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Binary explosives were cited as the source of a large explosion felt throughout Kaufman County on Saturday evening.

The source of the explosion was tracked to the 14000 block of County Road 4061 in between Grays Prairie and Kemp in southern Kaufman County.

40 pounds of Tannerite was reportedly ignited inside a pickup truck, according to Precinct 4 Constable Chad Jones.

Tannerite is one of the most widely recognized manufacturers of binary explosives which are often used for firearms target practice.

A group of people attending a memorial for a friend who recently passed away set off the Tannerite, according to Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards.

"40 pounds is a lot of Tannerite," Richards told inForney.com. "Fortunately there were no fires or injuries reported."

Richards says the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office dispatch received several dozen reports from the initial explosion and have subsequently received several reports of separate explosions, likely Tannerite, in the Scurry area.

In a statement, the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office stated there is no danger to the public.

inForney.com readers throughout Kaufman County reported hearing the explosion with some reporting their houses shook at the time of the explosion.

This is a developing story.
