FORNEY, Texas — A Dallas Police Department helicopter searching for a capsized boat over Lake Ray Hubbard found itself in some trouble of its own after a bid struck the aircraft’s windshield on Monday night.
FORNEY, Texas — A Dallas Police Department helicopter searching for a capsized boat over Lake Ray Hubbard found itself in some trouble of its own after a bid struck the aircraft’s windshield on Monday night.
The Dallas Police Department reported the bird strike at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015. “While searching for a boater whose craft capsized, the aircraft was struck by [an American Coot] which came through the windshield,” stated Dallas Police Department Major Max Geron.
The pilot suffered minor injuries to his face from glass fragments and the co-pilot made an emergency landing. An aircraft mechanic was one scene Monday night examining the helicopter which was expected to be flown back to its hangar under the direction of its co-pilot.
The boater was later located and was fine, according to Geron. The pilot which suffered minor injuries was also in “good spirits.”
