KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas β The capital murder trial of Charles Brownlow, the man accused of killing five in Terrell, Texas, last October, and the murder trial of William Simons, accused of killing a Kemp, Texas, woman in March, have been rescheduled.
In the case of Brownlow, a pretrial hearing scheduled for Tuesday, July 16, 2014, was canceled and rescheduled for July 24, 2014, in Kaufman County's 422nd District Court. Brownlow is facing four counts of capital murder and one count of burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit another felony.
The state's prosecution in January announced their intent to seek the death penalty for Brownlow. According to court records, Brownlow is also charged with evading arrest and contempt of court. He is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling $13,601,000.
67-year-old Simons is facing one count of murder for shooting and killing 62-year-old Roxie Whatley Quilter in Kemp, Texas, on March 11, 2014, during an alleged domestic dispute. Simons was brought before the 422nd District Court on Tuesday morning for a plea negotiation conference and a special setting was scheduled for September 11, 2014.
According to authorities in March, Simons called 911 and reported the shooting stating he shot Quilter. Simons is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
