FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation, has kicked-off its Green Ribbon Project along Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641, FM 548, and U.S. Highway 80.
FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation, has kicked-off its Green Ribbon Project along Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641, FM 548, and U.S. Highway 80.
The Green Ribbon Project is a Texas Department of Transportation program which identifies areas of new construction to construct new landscaping in an effort to decrease smog and increase air quality. The Forney City Council approved a Landscaping Maintenance Agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation during their Tuesday, October 21, 2014, meeting.
The Texas Department of Transportation will design and construct the project and the City of Forney will be responsible for the long-term maintenance. The city has extended an existing contract with Good Earth for the maintenance of the new landscaping.
The project will center around the FM 548 corridor near U.S. Highway 80. Landscaping will be placed near the U.S. Highway 80 overpass on the north and south side of the bridge. The landscaping will continue south in the FM 548 median to the intersection of FM 1641.
“The project will consist of the removal of the existing concrete in the median and replace it with trees, shrubs and bed plantings,” according to the City of Forney’s Facebook page. “The project will also include the removal of portions of concrete rip-rap around the bridge. Completion of the project is expected to take approximately 40 days, weather permitting.”
