FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney will increase the number of mosquito spraying cycles for the next two months to combat an increased mosquito population brought on by recent heavy rains and flooding.
FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney will increase the number of mosquito spraying cycles for the next two months to combat an increased mosquito population brought on by recent heavy rains and flooding.
In addition to the current spraying schedule, listed below, the city will also spray north of U.S. Highway 80 on June 4 and July 6. Spraying south of U.S. Highway 80 will be conducted on June 5 and July 7.
“These are not previous scheduled sprayings, so please make the proper precautions,” the City of Forney stated on their Facebook page earlier today. “The City will again reevaluate the situation in August to determine if additional dates are needed.”
The spraying will be conducted between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the scheduled days.
“The water soluble spray that will be used to fog for mosquitoes will not harm animals under normal conditions,” states a release from the city. “Residents will not want their pets and open windows in the path of the fog machine due to residue and mild odor.”
The city asks residents to take the following precautions prior to spraying: bring in pet dishes or cover them; cover ornamental ponds and birdbaths; bring your pets inside for the night; do not go outside during spray time; keep windows and doors closed during spraying; and if you have health problems, such as asthma, take special precautions as directed by your doctor, if necessary.
The city is also offering the following tips to help with mosquito control:
1. Drain the water. Eliminate all sources of standing water that can support mosquito breeding.
2. Avoid going out during dusk and dawn. Mosquitoes are active during these times. They are especially active for two hours after sunset.
3. Protect your home. Make sure that doors and windows have tight fitting screens. Repair or replace screens that have tears or holes.
4. Wear a good repellant that has DEET in it. Apply according to directions.
