ROSSER, Texas — The City of Rosser has become the first community in Kaufman County to receive the National Fire Protection Association’s Firewise Community designation — a national wildfire reduction and awareness program.
ROSSER, Texas — The City of Rosser has become the first community in Kaufman County to receive the National Fire Protection Association’s Firewise Community designation — a national wildfire reduction and awareness program.
The City of Rosser received the designation by “working closely with the Rosser Volunteer Fire Department and the Texas A&M Forest Service dedicating time and investing resources to make Rosser safer from wildfires and providing education outreach to its residents,” according to a Texas A&M Forest Service press release.
Rosser joined 64 other communities statewide to receive the designation and the first in Kaufman County.
“It’s not a question of if, but when, the next major wildfire will occur. Wildfires can happen anywhere and at any time,” State Firewise Liaison for Texas A&M Forest Service Nick Harrison stated. “Firewise Communities and Firewise practices are a process that empowers neighbors to work together in reducing their wildfire risks.”
Members of the Rosser Volunteer Fire Department, the City of Rosser, representatives from the Texas A&M Forest Service, and the Firewise Committee held a recognition ceremony at the Rosser Volunteer Fire Department on November 17, 2014.
