FORNEY, Texas — The Forney community collected approximately 700 toys during the Toys For Forney Kids toy drive.
The drive began in November with drop off locations throughout Forney and at Forney Independent School District campuses. Approximately 700 toys passed through the Forney Fire Department central station which served as a repository for the collections, according to Forney Fire Department Chief Rick Townsend.
“This was a great community group effort,” said Townsend.
Local churches, non-profit organizations such as the Lions Club, Sharing the Love Foundation, the Forney Food Pantry, and the Rotary Club, as well as other programs such as Santa COP (Constables on Patrol) helped disseminate the gifts to local children.
Although the drive officially ended last weekend with a toy-drive admission flag football match between the Forney Fire Department and the Forney Public Works Department, Townsend says they typically receive toys up until Christmas.
