FORNEY, Texas — A construction crew struck a natural gas line on Don T. Cates Drive Wednesday morning prompting a partial evacuation of the Steve Silver Company warehouse.
The four-inch gas line, which runs parallel with Don T. Cates Drive, was struck at approximately 7:40 a.m. The Forney Fire Department closed Don T. Cates 100 yards from Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 while Atmos Energy crews responded to repair the line.
At 9 a.m., Atmos crews gave an approximate five-hour repair timeline. Crews are going to install a bypass which allow them to clamp and repair the damaged portion of the line.
Approximately three-quarters of Steve Silver Company’s 500,000 square-foot warehouse was evacuated. The remaining portions of the warehouse and the front office remained in normal operations.
The crew which struck the gas line is completing the final leg of the Don T. Cates 1,200 foot, 12-inch water line project. In November 2014, the City of Forney awarded the contract to P.C. Contractors of Fort Worth, Texas.
