MABANK, Texas — The Mabank Volunteer Fire Department quickly took action to investigate and remove one of its volunteer members over alleged Facebook comments praising the suspect in the Charleston, South Carolina, shooting which left nine people dead.
MABANK, Texas — The Mabank Volunteer Fire Department quickly took action to investigate and remove one of its volunteer members over alleged Facebook comments praising the suspect in the Charleston, South Carolina, shooting which left nine people dead.
Yesterday morning, the department posted on Facebook they were investigating allegations made against one of its volunteer firefighters. An hour later, the department posted an update stating they had “terminated” the member and “trespassed him from all Mabank Fire Department property.”
“He [Dylann Roof] needs to be praised for the good deed he has done,” KLTV, as well as several social media users, reported the firefighter stated on a South Carolina newspaper’s Facebook Page in response to the shooting.
“The Mabank Fire Department does not condone nor promote these type of actions or thoughts,” the department posted on Facebook. “On behalf of all members, the Mabank Fire Department offers our deepest apologies to all that were offended by his actions and comments.”
Several Kaufman County firefighters, speaking to inForney.com, voiced concerns this individual’s comments could have a negative effect on the department they say has worked so hard to train and protect the residents of their service district.
The department received several positive remarks throughout the day Friday for their swift action removing the firefighter.

As of 1123 hrs, after an investigation in the allegations being made of Firefighter Kurtis Cook, the Mabank Fire Department Command Staff has terminated Kurtis Cook as a volunteer Firefighter permanently and has trespassed him from all Mabank Fire Department property.
