KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fiery fatal crash on Wednesday night on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fiery fatal crash on Wednesday night on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148.

The crash was reported at approximately 9 p.m. on FM 148 near County Road 4054 in between Kemp, Texas, and Scurry, Texas. A vehicle traveling eastbound on FM 148 reportedly struck a bridge guardrail before veering off the road and striking a tree — entrapping the driver and engulfing in flames, according to officials.

FM 148 was closed overnight for several hours as DPS conducted a fatal accident investigation.

The Kemp Volunteer Fire Department, Scurry Volunteer Fire Department, CareFlite, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the crash.

On Thursday afternoon, the Texas Department of Public Safety identified the deceased as 51-year-old Vincent Shelton of Mesquite, Texas. Vincent was driving a Schwan's delivery truck at the time of the crash.
