KAUFMAN, Texas — A driving while intoxicated (DWI) reenactment will take place at Kaufman High School on Friday, March 20, 2015, and the community is invited to attend.
The reenactment will begin at approximately 8:20 a.m. and will include three vehicles positioned in an accident scene in the student parking lot at Kaufman High School. First responders will respond to the accident and work the scene as a real accident and will include reenacted injuries, fatalities, and arrests. The accident portion of the reenactment is expected to last about an hour.
After the accident reenactment, the program will be moved to the “new gym” where a funeral reenactment will be held. The entire reenactment is expected to conclude by 10:30 a.m.
“Every aspect of this event, from the crash to the funeral, will be as if it were the real thing,” Kaufman Independent School District Police Department Chief Debi Nixon told inForney.com.
Criminal Justice and Junior Police Academy students will be participating in the reenactment as victims and suspects in the accident. The Kaufman Police Department, Kaufman Fire Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace’s Office, CareFlite, Parker-Ashworth Funeral home, PAAC Wrecker service, and Kaufman High School SMAT, Ag floral design, theatre arts, choir, and band will also participate.
According to Nixon, a drill is conducted every year and alternates between a DWI reenactment and an active shooter incident.
