KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – A mobile home was destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning, September 11, 2014, in eastern Kaufman County.
The fire, at the end of County Road 357 near I-20, was reported to the Elmo Volunteer Fire Department at approximately 4:09 a.m. Thursday morning. Mutual aid from the College Mound Volunteer Fire Department and the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department was requested shortly afterwards.
The fire was likely caused by the improper use of an extension cord in the home, according to Kaufman County Assistant Fire Marshal Randy Richards. Fire departments extinguished a smaller fire in the home near the water heater approximately six months ago which was found to be an accidental fire.
The mobile home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported. The homeowner was living in an RV several feet from the mobile home, it did not sustain any fire damage.
