MESQUITE, Texas — An 18-wheeler tractor fire temporarily closed eastbound I-20 in Mesquite overnight.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014, the Mesquite Fire Department responded to an 18-wheeler tractor fire on eastbound I-20 under the Lawson Road bridge. Upon arrival, the tractor was fully involved and the Mesquite Police Department closed all eastbound lanes of the highway.
The driver, who picked up a load in Fort Worth, Texas, and was heading to Shreveport, Louisiana, was experiencing engine overheating problems when he pulled over onto the shoulder and attempted to make repairs when the fire began.
The driver attempted to fight the fire before firefighters arrived.
The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of the fire to inspect the Lawson Road bridge for possible damage caused by the fire’s extreme heat.
No injuries were reported.
