FORNEY, Texas — A family and their pets are safe following a fire at their home which originated in the chimney on New Year’s Day.
At approximately 1:38 p.m., on January 1, 2015, the Forney Fire Department and the Terrell Fire Department, as mutual aid, responded to the two-story home in the 10,000 block of Selma Lane near the Travis Ranch neighborhood north of Forney, Texas.
A preliminary investigation by the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office indicates the fire was accidental and originated in the home’s chimney. The fire then spread throughout portions of the home and garage.
The family, who was home at the time the fire began, was able to safely evacuate the home with their pets. The Red Cross was dispatched to the home.
