SEAGOVILLE, Texas — A Seagoville family and their five dogs are safe after a fire destroyed their home Wednesday night.
Just after 11:30 p.m., the Seagoville Fire Department was dispatched to the home in the 1300 block of Hall Road. Officers with the Seagoville Police Department were first to arrive on scene and reported heavy smoke coming from the home.
A teenaged occupant of the home re-entered the house several times to save three of the family's dogs. Two dogs remained inside the home when firefighters arrived. Firefighters were able to safely recover the other two dogs — one of which was treated with oxygen at the scene by EMTs.
Firefighters reported a portion of the home was destroyed by fire which spread into the attic. Two-thirds of the home sustained major smoke and water damage including partial collapses of the ceiling. A portion of the roof and chimney were also destroyed.
The Crandall Volunteer Fire Department responded for mutual aid and the Combine Volunteer Fire Department was on standby at the Seagoville Fire Station.
The Red Cross was dispatched to provide the family with temporary assistance for four adults and a toddler, according to officials.
The Dallas County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
