Officials with Kaufman County, Crandall, Combine, and the Texas Department of Transportation began discussing the possible closure earlier today as water continued to rise from flood waters being released into the East Fork Trinity River from Lake Ray Hubbard at a rate of 33,000 feet per second — its maximum release rate.
The road will be closed until further notice, according to Crandall Fire Department Chief Allen Cousins.
At last check at a monitoring station in Crandall, the river was at a stage of 22.4 feet and expected to climb to 24 feet by Monday morning.
Lake Ray Hubbard will continue to release at 33,000 feet per second for at least another 36 to 72 hours, Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie told inForney.com.
Local and county officials say they do not have concerns about FM 1389 flooding but are continuing to monitor the roads condition.
