KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Eastbound Interstate 20 near Terrell will be closed until further notice following an 18-wheeler trailer fire on Wednesday morning.
At approximately 7:10 a.m., firefighters from the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Elmo Volunteer Fire Department, and the College Mound Volunteer Fire Department responded to eastbound Interstate 20 near mile marker 504 for the trailer fire which consumed portions of two pup-trailers carrying mail.
Texas Department of Transportation crews have been called to the scene to close the highway at State Highway 34 where traffic will be detoured through Terrell, Texas, to U.S. Highway 80 and back onto Interstate 20 via Farm-to-Market (FM) 429.
Special crews have been called in to off-load the mail from the trailers and into another trailer for removal.
Interstate 20 is expected to be closed for an extended period of time.
