KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – A fiery crash caused by a blown tire on a flatbed truck caused major delays on westbound U.S. Highway 175 earlier today as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) worked to make emergency repairs to a bridge.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – A fiery crash caused by a blown tire on a flatbed truck caused major delays on westbound U.S. Highway 175 earlier today as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) worked to make emergency repairs to a bridge.
The accident occurred earlier this morning on westbound U.S. Highway 175 between Farm-to-Market (FM) 1389 and FM 741. The flatbed truck blew a tire which caused it to veer into the left guardrail of an approaching bridge. The back end of the truck hung over the bridge.
The impact caused a fire to ignite which also caught lumber the truck was hauling on fire. The Seagoville Fire Department and the Crandall Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. Traffic was directed to the highway's right shoulder.
Due to the intensity of the fire, TxDOT crews made surface repairs to the roadway Friday afternoon and repaired the bridge's damaged guardrail. Crews remained on scene at 8:30 p.m.
The driver was taken to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, for non-life threatening injuries.
No other injuries were reported an no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
