CRANDALL, Texas — Firefighters were called to a fish farm along U.S. Highway 175 and the East Fork Trinity River after flood waters swept over the farm’s levees — trapping several horses in high water.
CRANDALL, Texas — Firefighters were called to a fish farm along U.S. Highway 175 and the East Fork Trinity River after flood waters swept over the farm’s levees — trapping several horses in high water.
Crandall Fire Department Chief Allen Cousins said voluntary evacuations had been issued at the farm due to impeding flood waters. However, Sunday evening, horses were witnessed near the back side of the farm in high water.
The Crandall Fire Department requested assistance from the Seagoville Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team to guide the horses to higher land. Horses were also evacuated from a barn which had also began to take on flood water.
The firefighters cleared the scene after the horses had been guided to an area of higher elevation on the farm’s levee.
Firefighters and the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office also urged two individuals who had sought refuge in the second floor of their flooded home on the farm to evacuate the property due to a National Weather Service forecast which indicated the river was going to continue to rise at least an additional foot overnight.
