TERRELL, Texas — Firefighters from Terrell and College Mound extinguished a truck and grass fire on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 3 p.m., the Terrell Fire Department responded to the fire in the 2400 block of West Moore Avenue in a pastor just south of the railroad and West Moore Avenue.
Mutual aid was requested from the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department and College Mound Volunteer Fire Department’s Crawler 1, a one-of-a-kind utility task vehicle (UTV) equipped for fire service.
A truck was driving through the pasture when it became stuck in the mud, according to Terrell Fire Department Fire Marshal Captain Tom Cooper. The truck caught on fire and caught the nearby grass on fire.
Firefighters were unable to access the fire with their brush trucks due to muddy conditions but Crawler 1, which is outfitted with an eight-wheel track system, was able to navigate to the truck and extinguish the fire. Firefighters used brooms to mop up the surrounding grass fire.
The fire was Crawler 1’s first fire since being placed into service in September 2015.
