KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A firefighters quick actions saved a Kaufman County home from being destroyed by a fire on Tuesday night.
At 9:19 p.m., the College Mound Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded to a house fire on Cheryl Lane in eastern Kaufman County just off Farm-to-Market 2728.
College Mound VFD Chief Josh Phillips was first on scene, having responded direct from his nearby home. Phillips used a water hose and, with the assistance of the homeowner, kept the fire at bay through a window.
Additional firefighters and apparatus responded to the scene including a mutual aid response from the Kaufman Fire Department.
The fire was contained to a corner bathroom and the house sustained minimal smoke damage which was mostly contained to the bathroom and nearby bedroom.
The American Red Cross of Kaufman County responded to the home for four adults who were displaced overnight. Until the cause of the fire could be further investigated, power to the home was disconnected but expected to be restored in the morning.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
