FORNEY, Texas — Firefighters tackled a grass fire Monday night near a row of homes in Windmill Farms.
The fire was reported around 8:10 p.m. in a field behind Foxglove Court and Cone Flower Drive. The Forney Fire Department responded with two brush trucks and an engine and quickly tackled the grass fire.
Firefighters reported approximately an acre burned.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office was dispatched to investigate the possibility the fire began from fireworks.
Early Sunday morning, firefighters responded to a possible structure fire a couple streets over from where today’s grass fire was reported. Spent fireworks in a trash can had caught on fire next to a home Misty Hollow Court.
The homeowner used a water hose to keep the fire at bay until firefighters arrived. Only minor damage was reported to the exterior of the home.
Approximately a dozen grass fires were reported county-wide overnight on July 4.
