COMBINE, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Combine area Saturday afternoon through late Sunday.
COMBINE, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Combine area Saturday afternoon through late Sunday.
Residents in the Combine area are asked to be prepared for possible evacuations due to flooding of area roads and homes, Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie told inForney.com.
At 1:47 p.m. the river gauge for the East Fork Trinity River near Crandall indicated a river level of 19 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet.
At 2 p.m., the East Fork Trinity River was listed in major flooding stage at 19.42 feet.
“At 20 feet, the river is expected to spread out and approach some of the streets and homes on the east side of the City of Combine,” stated the NWS.
The river is expected to rise overnight and into Sunday. “The river is forecast to rise to 24 feet at its crest tomorrow evening around 7 p.m.,” stated the NWS. “If the river continues to rise to 24 feet as forecast, water may enter homes within the City of Combine.”
The NWS expects the river to rise above 20 feet by 8 p.m. today which may begin to place the City of Combine in danger.
“Residents of Combine near the river should monitor the situation very closely and be prepared to move to higher ground if needed,” stated the NWS.
“Everyone should be prepared to move to a place of safety and/or higher ground,” echoed Howie. "It is with an abundance of caution that the City of Combine and Kaufman County are notifying citizens of this event and there have been no evacuation orders given."
At 4:20 p.m., Saturday, Lake Lavon was releaseing approximately 24,000 cubic feet of water per second into Lake Ray Hubbard which was releasing approximately 20,000 cubic feet per second, according to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers report.
County officials reported a potential breach of the Bois d'Arc Island levee near Combine. The breach should not affect homes in the Combine area.
Local and county officials are closely coordinating in the event an evacuation is issued.
