KAUFMAN, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, has issued a Flood Warning for portions of Kings Creek near Kaufman, Texas.
KAUFMAN, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, has issued a Flood Warning for portions of Kings Creek near Kaufman, Texas.
The warning was issued at 6:47 a.m. on Sunday and will remain in effect until late tonight or until the warning is canceled.
At 6:30 a.m., the stage was 5-and-a-half feet above flood stage levels for the river with a stage of 22.5 feet. Flood stage for the river is 17 feet.
The NWS also issued a Flood Advisory until 10 a.m. and a Flash Flood Watch until 6 p.m. for Kaufman County due to a line of thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall. “Heavy runoff will likely cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area,” the NWS stated.
“Heavy rain falling on damp soil will likely lead to rapid runoff which would result in flash flooding,” stated the NWS.
The NWS warns drivers not to drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the road. “Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road.”
“Make the smart choice. Turn around. Don’t drown,” stated the NWS.
