FORNEY, Texas — Tonight, at the Forney City Council meeting, the council members will have their first look at a Forney Economic Development Corporation’s plan to renovate, add additional parking, new trash receptacles, and enhance the walkability of the historic downtown corridor.
The plan, estimated at $692,442.60, will include work on Bois D’Arc Street, Elm Street, and East Main Street and was approved by the Forney Economic Development Corporation at their October 8, 2015, meeting. The project cost includes a $79,320.30 contingency.
Forney EDC Director Warren Ketteman said at an EDC meeting in September the project is more than about solving downtown parking issues. “It’s a major statement on our downtown.”
The project, if approved, would be funded through the Forney EDC’s Downtown Revenue Bond which has a balance of $972,000.
Not included in the plan is improvements and additional parking on Front Street and intersection enhancements at East Main Street and Elm Street. Those improvements were estimated at an additional $652,391.65.
Tonight’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
