FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Combat Challenge Team competed in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge national competition over the weekend in Farmers Branch, Texas, and set some new personal records.
FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Combat Challenge Team competed in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge national competition over the weekend in Farmers Branch, Texas, and set some new personal records.
The national competition was a three-day event spanning Friday through Sunday with individual, teams, and relays.
On Friday, the Forney Combat took 9th place in the team event out of the Top 20 teams in the nation. The team event adds the top three times the team achieves in the individual event. Those times include Russell Bannister’s 12th place finish with a time of 1:37.03, a new personal record; David Lawson’s 73rd place finish with a time of 2:10.07, a new personal record; and Darren Yarborough’s 84th place finish with a time of 2:19.78.
Lawson’s personal record shed 17 seconds off his previous personal record and Yarborough was competing for the first time in the individual race.
Seeding for the relay event began on Saturday and Forney Combat ran a 1:19.95, including a two second penalty, against Team ATX out of Austin, Texas. The time qualified the team for a 10th place seed and a bye round in the finals on Sunday.
In the round of 16 during the finals, Forney Combat lost to Mr. Restore Desoto with a 1:28.22 to Desoto’s 1:18.84.
Competing in the tandem challenge, Bannister and Lawson finished 15th place, out of 38, with a time of 1:27.45. Bannister also competed in the tandems with Desoto Fire Department firefighter Brent Barkham of Forney, Texas. Bannister and Barkham finished 16th with a time of 1:29.08.
The Forney Combat Challenge Team also picked up a title sponsor for local competitions and will be known as Mr. Restore Forney when competing locally.
On October 19-24, 2015, Forney Combat will travel to Montgomery, Alabama for the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge World Finals competition.
