The first grass fire was reported just after 2 p.m. near Painted Trail which is located north of Kroger Marketplace. Forney Fire Department's Rescue 1 truck and Captain Phillip Pyle responded in the operations truck to the scene. Approximately one-quarter acre to half an acre burned before it was extinguished.

After 3 p.m., the second grass fire was reported south of the U.S. Highway 80 service road near Farm-to-Market (FM) 460. Farm equipment was operating in the area of the fire when it sparked. About half an acre burned in this fire near a heavily wooded area.

At approximately 4 p.m., the Forney Fire Department was called back to the second grass fire after it re-kindled near the tree line. It was extinguished a short time later. Several fire apparatus were used during the operations at the FM 460 scene.

No injuries were reported in any of the grass fires.

The Kaufman County Commissioners' Court enacted a burn ban for unincorporated portions of Kaufman County on August 11, 2014, to be in effect for 45 days at which time it will be re-evaluated by the Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office.
