FORNEY, Texas — It was a solemn ceremony at the Mick Spellman Amphitheater on Saturday, November 8, 2014, as more than 800 people packed the amphitheater’s lawn to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces during the City of Forney’s Veterans Day ceremony.
FORNEY, Texas — It was a solemn ceremony at the Mick Spellman Amphitheater on Saturday, November 8, 2014, as more than 800 people packed the amphitheater’s lawn to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces during the City of Forney’s Veterans Day ceremony.
The 3rd Annual Veterans Day ceremony was hosted on a different day then the Turkey Trax Auto Show, compared to years past, and event organizers said they were more than happy with the turnout by the community.
Visitors heard from guest speakers which included Forney Mayor Darren Rozell, DFW Honor Flight representative Donna Sedota, Merchant Marine Veteran R. Nelson Smith, and the keynote speaker United States Army Veteran First Sergeant Gordon M Butler.
Also participating in the ceremony was the Forney High School Choir, the Rhea Elementary Choir, and local Boy Scout troops. The Forney Independent School District Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps presented held a 13-fold flag folding ceremony.
Organizers estimated more than 800 attended the event which continues to grow each year.
