Video: Sherwin sworn in as Forney’s new Chief of Police

FORNEY, Texas — Forney Police Department Chief Robert Sherwin submitted a resignation letter on Monday.

"Effective close of business June 28, 2019, I will be resigning my position of Chief of Police for the Forney Police Department," Sherwin stated in a letter to City of Forney City Manager Anthony Carson, which was obtained by inForney.com.

"Thank you for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Forney and the Forney Police Department," he stated.

Sherwin, who was a 30-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, was selected to replace retiring long-time Police Chief Rick Barnes in December 2016. He was officially sworn in on January 9, 2017.

A request for additional information on the process to hire a replacement, or appoint an interim or acting chief, had not been answered at the time of press.
