FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Department is investigating a major head-on collision which seriously injured a child who was airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital.
The crash was reported at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 just north of U.S. Highway 80 near the Murphy’s gas station.
The wreck involved a sedan and a passenger van — both of which sustained heavy front-end damage.
A child in one of the vehicles was transported by ground ambulance to the helipad at Lake Pointe hospital in Forney where a CareFlite medical helicopter transported the child to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, according to Forney Fire Department Chief Rick Townsend.
Two others were transported by ground ambulance — one to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
A portion of southbound FM 548 — from CVS to Murphy’s — is closed while police map the scene of the crash.
The Forney Fire Department, Forney Police Department, and three CareFlite ambulances responded to the scene.
A wrecker is on scene.
