KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – The College Mound Volunteer Fire Department responded to a dense brush fire near Abner Road earlier today, Wednesday, September 24, 2014.
Mutual aid was requested from the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Kaufman Volunteer Fire Department, and the Elmo Volunteer Fire Department as the fire quickly spread through dense brush north of Abner Road just west of Farm-to-Market (FM) 2728 in Kaufman County.
Several brush trucks from the four departments fought the fire for nearly two hours and, at some points, used chainsaws to cut brush to access the leading edge of the fire. A College Mound tanker provided water to the other units.
No personal property damage or injuries were reported. Approximately five to 10 acres burned. The nearest structure was approximately 100 yards from the fire.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
