FORNEY, Texas — Forney Independent School District grief counselors were made available Thursday to students and faculty following the death of a Forney High School student on Wednesday.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event,” Forney High School Principal Steve Whiffen stated in an email to faculty and parents on Wednesday night. “Our immediate efforts are focused on helping the family, staff and students of Forney High School deal with the grief regarding this event.”
“We understand that this may be a very difficult time for your child. We want to try to assist our students in any way we can to help them get through this traumatic event,” stated Whiffen.
“We have a team of trained grief counselors from Forney High School and several other schools here in Forney ISD available to assist and help our students deal with this loss,” he stated. “Please let your child know that a school counselor is available to meet with them privately if they are struggling or would like help coping with this tragic situation. Our counselors are also available to provide you with information and guidelines on how you can talk with your child about death or this specific situation.”
“We ask for your thoughts and prayers for the family, the students and the staff of Forney High School as we all try to deal with this heartbreaking situation,” stated Whiffen.
