Hazard Mitigation public meeting September 25

On September 25, 2013, Kaufman County will hold a public meeting for the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Action Plan which has been underway in the county for several months.

On September 25, 2013, Kaufman County will hold a public meeting for the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Action Plan which has been underway in the county for several months.

The public meeting will provide a project overview from the Hazard Mitigation Action Plan project consultation firm H2O Partners. The meeting is also an opportunity for H2O partners to gain additional insight from Kaufman County residents during the development of the plan.

The meeting will be held at Trinity Valley Electric Co-op at 1800 East Highway 243, Kaufman, Texas 75142, on September 25, 2013, at 5:30 p.m.

According to a press release from the Kaufman County Emergency Management Department, “The goal of the Hazard Mitigation Plan is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from natural hazards by identifying and implementing cost-effective mitigation actions. Natural hazards may include flood, tornado, hurricane wind, wildfire, and others.”

The Hazard Mitigation Action Plan committee has a planning team with representatives from all over Kaufman County including, Terrell, Forney, Kaufman, Scurry, Rosser, Crandall, Kemp, Mabank, Post Oak Bend, Oak Ridge, Combine, Grays Prairie, Oak Grove, Cottonwood. The planning team also includes members from Independent School Districts of Forney, Terrell, Kaufman, Crandall, Scurry-Rosser, Kemp, Mabank, and representatives from Terrell State Hospital and Texas Health Resources of Kaufman, Texas.

Mitigation is defined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as sustained actions taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards and their effects.
