Wet conditions also led to traffic delays throughout the North Texas region and are expected to worsen in some areas on the western front as temperatures remain below freezing.
Farm-to-Market (FM) 148 between State Highway (SH) 274 and County Road (CR) 2613 at the Lively Store is closed due to safety concerns with a bridge on FM 148, according to a statement from the Kemp Independent School District citing a Texas Department of Transportation notification.
County Roads 283, 152, and 153 are also closed due to flooding, Kaufman County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie told inForney.com. County Road 125 is also expected to close soon due to flooding, he said.
Service road barricades along U.S. Highway 80, in the Forney and East Fork Trinity River area, were closed Wednesday morning after high waters crested the roadway — resulting in several stalled vehicles.
Slick roads also contributed to additional traffic-related delays, including a crash involving an 18-wheeler in the Sunnyvale area on U.S. Highway 80, pictured above.
Heavy rains are expected to continue throughout Wednesday with below freezing temperatures leading to light ice accumulations on area roadways as well as a chance of freezing rain on Thursday morning.
