KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, issued a high fire weather conditions report on Thursday morning wanting of increased fire risks across North Texas.
The high fire conditions will occur due to hot temperatures, low humidities, and south to southwest winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour with higher gusts of approximately 25 mph, stated the NWS.
“Temperatures this afternoon will reach the mid to upper 90s and both DFW and Waco are forecasted to set new record high temperatures for today,” stated the NWS.
Kaufman County remains under a burn ban.
At the time of this report, firefighters from College Mound, Terrell, and Kaufman were responding to a large, fast-moving grass fire started from a tractor in a pasture on County Road 140. The fire had already grown to approximately six acres and spread into thick brush and mesquite trees before firefighters could arrive on scene.
