KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas โ€” A home in rural Kaufman County was destroyed by a fire Wednesday night as firefighters from several agencies responded to fight the blaze.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., the Kaufman Fire Department was dispatched to a home fully engulfed in flames on County Road 111A in eastern Kaufman County โ€” in the Rand area.

Mutual aid was immediately requested from the Kemp and Mabank volunteer fire departments due to the fact no traditional water sources were available in the near vicinity โ€” necessitating a need for additional tankers. Firefighters also used a booster truck to pump water from a nearby pond.

A home and an attached garage or awning structure were completely destroyed in the fire. Fire officials say the family is out of town on vacation.

One firefighter was treated by EMS for unknown illness, possibly heat-related.

The Kaufman County Fire Marshalโ€™s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The Scurry Volunteer Fire Department was also dispatched as standby in the City of Kaufman.
