KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Kaufman County home was completely destroyed following a fire early Friday morning, March 6, 2015.
The fire was reported just before 3 a.m. on Friday in the 23000 block of Farm-to-Market (FM) 429 — approximately two miles north of the Terrell city limits. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure which was formerly a restaurant converted to residential.
The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Able Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and the Elmo Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire with multiple fire apparatus and personnel. Firefighters were still working hotspots in the structure at 5 a.m.
Firefighters were forced to fight the fire defensively due to a partial roof collapse but were able to enter the structure later through a window in the un-collapsed portion of the structure to continue fighting the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The homeowner was able to safely evacuate the structure unharmed. One adult was displaced as a result of the fire. The Kaufman County American Red Cross was on scene to assist the homeowner.
