KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Interstate-20 in Kaufman County has reopened following a Christmas morning accident involving a semi tractor-trailer which was rear-ended by a pickup truck.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Interstate-20 in Kaufman County has reopened following a Christmas morning accident involving a semi tractor-trailer which was rear-ended by a pickup truck.

At approximately 4 a.m., the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, an East Texas Medical Center ambulance, and the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to westbound I-20 just east of Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 regarding the accident which ultimately closed the highway for nearly an hour.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck rear-ended the semi tractor-trailer while it was stopped on the shoulder of the highway.

The pickup truck driver was transported to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance with what were described as serious but non-life threatening injuries. An additional ambulance was requested for the driver of the semi tractor-trailer who was transported to Lake Pointe Medical Center in Forney, Texas, for an evaluation.

The right lane remained closed while the Texas Department of Public Safety conducted an accident investigation.

The Terrell Fire Department also responded to the accident.
