KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Kaufman County Clerk’s Office received its 10th Five Star Award during the State of Texas Vital Statistics’ Conference — one of 12 county offices in the state of Texas to do so with an exemplary status.

In order to receive this award, the Kaufman County Clerk's office must have met or exceeded criteria set forth by the state of Texas. The criteria include recording 85% or more birth certificates within one business day, special training courses, timelines for filing vital county records, collaborating with other vital registration partners, management of the county registration process, and passing an on-site assessment from an individual from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

“To put this achievement in perspective, I want everyone to know that there are 500 State Local Registrars who are eligible to receive this award, however in 2014 there were only 12 County Offices who received the Exemplary level,” stated Kaufman County Clerk Laura Hughes. “This award is not just handed out, it is worked for and earned over the course of the year and it is something that the residents of Kaufman County should be proud of.”

Hughes attributes the departments success to team work county-wide between the clerk’s office, the four Kaufman County justice of the peace offices, local hospitals, and local funeral homes.

“We are able to make sure that the vital records for Kaufman County are registered, available, and quickly accessible when they need them,” stated Hughes.
